Washington registers contractors rather than examining them, and says so. L&I’s Verify a Contractor, by name, number or UBI. The record shows the bond, the insurance, workers’ comp standing, and any infractions or lawsuits against the bond.
A bond that is impaired has claims against it. Infractions are public. Neither shows in the registration status, which is “active” either way, so read past it.

Registration, not a license, and yes: anyone who advertises, bids or performs contracting work in Washington must be registered with Labor & Industries, at any job size. Floor covering is a specialty registration, which is what this list is built on. There is no trade exam; the registration is a bond, an insurance policy and a business number on file.
That a $15,000 surety bond and liability insurance are on file and a state business number exists. It does not test skill, and L&I says as much. What it gives a homeowner is a bond to claim against, an insurance policy to check, and a public history of infractions and lawsuits on the Verify page.
Usually one of three reasons: it is registered as a general contractor rather than under the floor-covering specialty, its address of record is outside Washington, or the registration is not active. The list is pulled whole from L&I’s open data with every build, so a registrant who is missing today should check their record with the department.
No business is on this page because it paid, and no business is off it because it did not. Listings are sorted by registration date, oldest first. If a sponsored position is ever offered it will be labeled as one and can only reorder businesses that already qualify.
