Registered flooring contractors in Connecticut

368 businesses hold a current home improvement contractor registration under a business name that says flooring with an address of record in Connecticut, per DCP’s registration data on September 10, 2026. Every one of them is on this site, by city and county, with its license record. Nothing else gets a business on the list — not a sign-up, not a review score, not a payment.

The standard in Connecticut

Connecticut has no flooring license. Flooring is done under the Home Improvement Contractor registration with the Department of Consumer Protection, which any business doing residential work over $200 must hold: a registration fee, a contribution to the state’s Home Improvement Guaranty Fund, and the HIC number on every contract and advertisement. There is no exam, and no bond or insurance is required. What a homeowner gets from it is a written-contract law with real teeth and the Guaranty Fund, which pays a homeowner’s judgment against a registered contractor when the contractor will not.

The registration says nothing about trade — 22,000 Connecticut businesses hold one, from roofers to kitchen remodelers. The only thing on the state record that can say “flooring” is the registered business name, so that is the rule here: an active registration whose registered name or DBA says floor, flooring, carpet, hardwood or parquet. A remodeler who also lays floors will not appear, and cannot be added by hand. Tile is left out on purpose; in the states that license the trade, tile is its own classification.

How a listing is verified

What the record shows, and what it can’t

What we check

  • Registration status and expiration date
  • The registered business name and any DBA — the only thing on the record that says flooring
  • Issue date, from DCP’s data

What we can’t know from it

  • Whether the work is any good
  • What they charge
  • Whether they are taking jobs this month
  • Insurance or a bond — Connecticut requires neither, so ask for a certificate of insurance before anyone starts
  • Whether a remodeler registered under another name also does floors — the record cannot say, so they are not here

A license is the floor, not the ceiling. Get three bids and put them on the same footing.

How often

  • The whole list is re-pulled from the board with every site build
  • A license that drops off the board’s active list drops off here the same day
  • Every card shows the date the register was read

Do it yourself

Check any Connecticut registration in two minutes

1. Get the number

Connecticut requires the HIC number on every contract, estimate and advertisement. A contractor who can’t produce it on the spot has answered the question.

2. Look it up

DCP’s eLicense, with “Home Improvement Contractor” as the credential type. The record shows status, expiry and any discipline.

3. Ask for what the state does not

A certificate of liability insurance, and the written contract Connecticut law requires — start and end dates, the total price, and the three-day right to cancel. Without the contract the Guaranty Fund cannot help you.

Then do the part no registry can: three bids, references from jobs over a year old, and a written contract. Hiring a flooring contractor covers what to ask.

Common questions

Registered contractors in Connecticut — frequently asked

No license exists for the trade. Any business doing residential improvement work over $200 must be registered as a Home Improvement Contractor with the Department of Consumer Protection, which is a registration and a Guaranty Fund contribution, not an exam. This list is built on that registration.

By the state record and nothing else. A Connecticut HIC registration names no trade, so the only thing on it that can say flooring is the registered business name or DBA. Every business here has an active registration and a registered name containing floor, flooring, carpet, hardwood or parquet. It is a narrower list than the state’s flooring trade — a remodeler who also lays floors is not on it — because that is the record’s limit, and the page would rather be short than guess.

That the business is on file with DCP and has paid into the Home Improvement Guaranty Fund, which pays a homeowner’s court judgment when a registered contractor will not. It does not test skill and requires no insurance or bond. Ask for a certificate of insurance yourself; the state will not have.

No business is on this page because it paid, and no business is off it because it did not. Listings are sorted by registration date, oldest first. If a sponsored position is ever offered it will be labeled as one and can only reorder businesses that already qualify.

Insurance, first — Connecticut does not require it. Then references from jobs over a year old, three written bids on the same scope, and a contract that meets the state’s home improvement law. The hiring guide covers what to ask.

How this list is made

Public records, in the open

Every business here was taken from DCP’s registration data on September 10, 2026, not from a sign-up form. The verified block on each card comes from the state record and only changes when the record does. A business that wants a correction should correct it with the board; it will flow through on the next build.

If a sponsored position is ever offered, it will be labeled as one, and it can only reorder businesses that already qualify. It cannot put an unlicensed business on this page. That rule is the page.

License status is as of the date shown on each card and can change at any time. The board does not endorse any contractor, and neither does this list — a license means the minimum legal standard was met. Check the current record before you sign anything.
