Tips on Cleaning Your Wood Flooring

by Tina Redman

It seems that whenever you turn on a home improvement show nowadays, the person renovating the house always seems to install hardwood flooring. Of course, while they demonstrate how to install the flooring, they never show you how it is supposed to be cleaned. As such, this article is going to describe how to properly clean your wood flooring.

For most people, they consider their flooring clean after they have swept it. Unfortunately, there is a lot more required if they want their flooring to look the best it possibly can. Furthermore, besides appearance, proper cleaning can also extend the flooring's durability.

The first question that you need to answer is what kind of hardwood flooring you have. You will take different measures depending on the type of wood. For some types of wood, all you may need to use is a mop and bucket of soapy water.

Next, you should contact the manufacturer for guidance on how to clean your flooring. The manufacturer may advice you to use a specific cleaner or he may tell you that can use any general flooring cleaning polish.

After you receive guidance from the manufacturer on how to clean the floor, you are going to want to check the recommended cleaners acidity levels. Believe it or not, some cleaners are so acidic that they can actually bleach your flooring (this occurs because the cleaner removes the lacquer).

Something else that you may want to consider is how the cleaner is applied to the flooring. You basically have two choices, spray on and pour on application. In order to get the best coverage (a more equal distribution), you should use a spray-on cleaner.

Each floor manufacturer should distribute instructions on how to maintain your floor to get the best appearance. Please read these directions and implement them. The manufacturer has tested his product and knows exactly what should and should not be done to get the best appearance.

In conclusion, this article summarized how you should keep you wood flooring clean. Just remember, as long as you follow the manufacturers instructions, you will end up with a great looking product for many enjoyable years to come.
