Taking Care Of Karastan Rugs

by Kellie G Rogerson

Karastan rugs are world renowned for their beauty durability and exceptional design. Innovation has always been a large part of the company's success. The first Karastan rug was manufactured in 1928. That was the year when a loom able to duplicate the meticulous craftsmanship of a hand-woven rug became available.

Now Karastan rugs are the acclaimed leaders in the high quality machine rug market as they continue their innovations. Karastan recently began offering custom made rugs that allow customers to use their choice of color schemes on Karastan designs.

Another reason that Karastan rugs are unique and well-liked is that the company uses New Zealand Wool in their weaving. This wool content gives the rugs exquisite looks and durability, but it also represents a potential cleaning problem for rug buyers. Some Karastan rug buyers worry about maintaining their rugs, but luckily Karastan has solutions for these worries.

Karastan's first rug care tip recommends that customers obtain pads for their rugs. Using pads will prevent rug slippage that can make the rugs wear out too soon.

Karastan's next piece of advice is that Karastan owners rotate their rugs from one area to another after a six-month period. This is because eventually walking and sunlight directed at the same areas will make rugs fade or have uneven wear. Moving the rugs around regularly will keep these issues at bay.

For taking care of everyday dirt and dust Karastan recommends regular vacuuming. In the case of fringed rugs customers are advised to take care not to get the fringes caught in the vacuum. Catching the fringes in the vacuum can tear them off the rug.

According to Karastan rugs must be vacuumed no less than two to three times weekly in the first year after purchase. This is to do away with the fuzz that develops on the rugs. The formation of the fuzz is a totally normal event which has no bearing whatsoever on the durability of the rugs. The fuzz is caused by the loose threads that develop during rug production and it will go away after a time.

When customers have owned their rugs for over a year Karastan recommends vacuuming based on how much traffic the rug bears. Where there is high traffic, customers are encouraged to vacuum daily. This is because if soil and dirt are allowed to accumulate, they may cause undue wear on rug fibers.

Karastan lists specific additional recommendations for stain removal online. Ensuring that both Karastan's normal maintenance and stain removal advice are followed will preserve Karastan rugs for future generations.
