Facts about Concrete Resurfacing
Ever wonder how to repair a small crack from your concrete surface? Is it possible that the single crack can be healed and thus make the concrete look good as new? Concrete Resurfacing is the easiest and fastest way to repair a concrete surface so that one does not need to replace the whole concrete surface. Concrete Resurfacing does not only repair but also improves the whole appearance of concrete.
There are several ways known to man on how to repair a concrete floor. Small cracks are easier to repair through the application of a primer and basecoat. It is important to choose a shade two to three shades lighter or darker than your concrete surface to ensure the invisibility of cracks. Large cracks require a lot of process and usually take longer to repair. The surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned before the resurfacing process.
Surface preparation involves different materials depending on the dirt and stain that tend to settle on your concrete floor. For simple dirt, dust and grime a household detergent or soap mixed with water may do the trick. The solution is then poured onto the stained area and scrubbed down. Power washing is also a common procedure in concrete cleaning. This involves pressurized water coming out of a nozzle. For grease and oil stains a mixture of alkali degreaser and hot water may do the trick.
The first step in resurfacing large cracks is to apply a primer coat. Once the cracks had been filled in it should be applied with a gauze fabric to reinforce. Next step is to top it off with a basecoat after which a polymer concrete is added to further strengthen the surface. The surface is then grounded to smooth with the surrounding concrete.
After grinding the smooth concrete will be applied with a prime coat and granule all over. Next is to apply an ultra surface polymer as texture coat and use a trowel to finish. A Color coat is added depending on the desired color the owner prefers. The surface will be sealed by a sealant which is usually in clear. Allow the concrete to cure for 2-3 days without exposing it to traffic conditions.
