Found Household Items to Clean Grout

by Rick Amorey

There is a heated debate about what is the best material used to clean the grout between your tiles. Few insist on trying out the countless advertised chemical solutions available, going through shelves upon shelves of products that give promise of doing most of the dirty work for them. Some experiment with home-remedies, using trial and error to find the best one that works. Within the next paragraphs are some of the substances I've tried and which I've proved to have produced favorable results when dealing with dirty grout.

The first and simplest way to deal with accumulating molds in your grout is to spray it with an alcohol solution. Simply buy a spray bottle from any convenience store and add in a mixture of alcohol. Dry the shower after use, and then spray the tiles down with the solution. Stronger solutions are required for the worse off of bathrooms.

The next household solution that could have a good effect with regards to cleaning your grout is baking soda. This one feels a bit more tedious, but actually works pretty quick. Simply dampen the area to be cleaned, after which you sprinkle baking soda over the grout. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub it off with an old toothbrush. With just a little work, the grout will turn out clean.

Bleach is also a good cleaning agent if your bathroom grout is not dyed. If you do the laundry, too, then chances are you're aware that bleach has a tendency to remove color as well as dirt. When using this method, mix equal parts of water and bleach, and spray it onto the bathroom every night after everyone is done using it. It will begin to show results after one or two weeks of doing this, and after such time, you can lessen it to about once a week.
