Slate Tile Flooring For Beginners

There are so many different choices you can make when renovating your home tiling. One is known for being rather sturdy and authentic in appearance and quality. These floor tiles are known as slate tiles. The many variations create a special ambience to your entire room.

Slate tile flooring consists of variations colors of rock slabs, which give a better-looking quality over ceramic and porcelain tiles. Because they are made of natural rocks, they are far more resilient and long-lasting.

Slate tile flooring is not man-made. This is unlike the vinyl ones that you typically would see in apartment bathrooms and kitchens. Understandably, those are much cheaper materials that are rather thin and will most likely break down and crack sooner than later. (Yes, they are that cheap in quality).

No, these slabs of fine-grained quartz, chlorite, mica and calcite are literally slates of metamorphic rock that are quite robust.

You may be wondering where the rocks come from. They come from riverbeds and ocean beds after a long time of sediments collecting together and fusing from the intense heat of the earth's crust. They are then collected and taken to the factories, where machines smooth the bottom surface and cut them into uniform sizes to be placed on our floors!

If you are unsure about your home being safe with slate tiles in your floor, not to worry. They are definitely home-approved.

Slate tile floors are measured in metrics. The most common dimensions they are cut into, are 12×12, 16×16, and 24×24.

For all of the extra maintenance that slate tile floors require, many folks don't question the benefits of having such a unique quality and aesthetic the floor gives. To them, it is well worth the effort for such beauty in the home.
