The Beauty and Appeal of Persian Rugs
Resting upon wooden floors, an accent or area rug can look wonderful in your home whether it is a contemporary style, a casual shag rug or perhaps a regal Oriental rug. Choosing a rug that is right for you is a balance of size, style, color, pattern and of course expense.
Rugs today are also pieces of art, and none come finer than Oriental Rugs, especially Persian ones. Persian style rugs, the authentic ones, are hand woven and generally made from either wool (mostly camel wool), silk or cotton. Rugs made on a machine are not considered to be authentic, even if made in the place of origin of Oriental rugs, such as India, Pakistan, China, Iran or Turkey.
Not all Oriental rugs are the Persian kind although Persian becomes instantly synonymous to Oriental. It still boils down to how the rug is made, the designs and patterns, and the materials used.
What makes a rug an authentic Persian one? It depends upon the location in which it was made. If a rug is woven in, what today is known as Iran, then it qualifies as being a Persian rug. These Persian rugs are beautiful and intricate works of art and because of the handmade skills involved in making tem, they are a large source of income for the local Iranian rug weavers.
Many Persian rugs are used as wall hangings. The beautiful designs can really make them eye-catching wall decors. Persian rugs that have been hand-woven from silk are also very delicate and thus, do not make sturdy floor decors. As a result, they become interesting wall pieces instead.
There are also antique Persian rugs that have survived time. Possessing such rug is any collector's dream come true. The history, time and value are worth any price tag.
The style of Persian rugs is largely based around woven patterns of a circular nature, a pattern (perhaps a flower or animal) that fills the entire area of the rug, or ones that are filled with symbolic motifs. Because rugs are hand woven, there is a certain artistic freedom that goes into making them. Many of the rugs have that personal touch in them, and it is more than likely that a Persian rug you buy will be unique. This all adds to the appeal of the items.
What Persian rugs can bring to a home is understandable. Sure, the price is sometimes bordering on absurd (it's very expensive!) but the beauty and appeal it gives to a home is something to be happy about. A Persian rug in the living room for instance, is a centerpiece in itself and an instant interior enhancer.
Consider seeking out a Persian rug if it will fit in to the budget of your design. A good authentic rug will last a lifetime and beyond and can easily become a valuable family heirloom.
