What are the advantages and disadvantages of hardwood floors and laminate floors?

Answered By Fran Fratelli, Editor

When deciding to remodel your floors, it should be based on your own preference together with the value it will cost you. If you are thinking of having wood flooring, select between hardwood floors and laminated floors. Hardwood floors are what its name implies. These are planks of arranged hardwoods making a singular surface. You can choose any pattern and design you like. However, you should know that the more difficult your pattern, the more expensive your project will be. Hardwood floors normally last for many years but they are expensive. They are also difficult to repair when damaged and are very costly to fix.

Laminated floors, on the other hand, are just what it sounds. These are thin wood strips that are laminated to particle plank backings to make a hardwood floor look. The difference of the two is that the latter one is easier to install and more affordable. Laminate floors also last long only if very well maintained. They are easier to repair though.
