Choices In Hardwood Flooring

By Marlon Allen

Many people do not realize that there are many different types of hardwood flooring. When shopping for hardwood flooring it is important to first understand the different types, so you can choose the one that is best for your needs.

There are three main types of hardwood flooring. Solid hardwood flooring is solid wood that comes in various ranges of thickness. Engineered hardwood flooring is a constructed product made from layers that comes in different thickness. Acrylic impregnated hardwood flooring is a wood product that is injected with acrylic to make is more durable.

When choosing hardwood flooring you should begin by deciding which type you will want to use. This will depend on the area where the flooring is going to go as some types work better in certain situations then other types.

Another consideration is the different styles of hardwood flooring. There are three main styles. Strip hardwood flooring is flooring that has a tongue and groove that allow for it to be easily fitted together. Plank hardwood flooring is a wider version of strip hardwood flooring, but the construction is the same. Parquet hardwood flooring is pieces of hardwood that are fit together to create a design or pattern.

After considering the type and style of hardwood flooring you will move onto the actual choice of wood and the look of the flooring. This includes the type of wood, which can range from oak to cherry. You will also need to choose the color and the finish, if desired.

There is a lot to consider when buying hardwood flooring because there are just so many different types and styles of hardwood flooring, but that is what makes hardwood floors so great - you are getting a unique product that is going to look beautiful in your home.
